Furniture assembly in Ajax is usually for a young family. The newer subdivisions north of Taunton Road are full of first houses, and the calls that come in are cribs, change tables, bunk beds and a dresser that has to be safe with a toddler in the room.
Anchoring is not an optional extra on those jobs. Every tall piece gets fixed back to a stud, bunk rails and ladders are checked and tightened once the build is done, and the packaging and plastic straps leave with me.
Most of the flat-pack going into Ajax right now is children's furniture, and that changes what matters. Bedrooms in the newer parts of town are modest, usually with a window on one wall and a closet on another, so the bunk bed and the dresser end up on an outside wall where the framing sits behind insulation and a vapour barrier. I find the real stud rather than guessing at spacing, use the restraint that came in the carton, and check the top bunk still clears the light fixture.
