Furniture and IKEA Assembly for Oakville Homes

Furniture assembly in Oakville covers two very different houses. Around Kerr Village, Bronte and the old downtown the homes are older, with narrow doorways, low cellar headroom and floors that have moved. Out in Joshua Creek and River Oaks the rooms are big and the finishes are new.

Both need care with the floor. I work on a blanket, keep hardware off the boards, and felt every foot before a piece takes its own weight. Then it is levelled, anchored where it needs to be, and the cardboard goes.

Old Oakville and Bronte have doorways closer to thirty inches than the thirty-two used now, plus tight cellar stairs and beams you duck under, so a wide dresser is built in the room it is staying in or not at all. In the newer east-end houses the problem reverses: acres of engineered hardwood and an owner who will spot a single scratch. Panels go on a blanket, screws never sit loose on the boards, and every foot gets a felt pad before the load goes on.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Tell me the pieces

Send the product names or a link for each item, plus how many of each. IKEA article numbers are ideal. That tells me the build time and whether a piece needs wall fixing or extra care getting it upright.

2
Boxes in the room

Have the flat packs in the room where the furniture is going, with a clear floor space beside them. Carrying a built wardrobe through a doorway rarely works, so the build happens where the piece will live.

3
Built, checked, anchored

Parts are laid out and counted first, then the carcass goes together and gets checked for square before the back panel is fixed. Doors and drawers are adjusted, feet levelled, and anything tall is strapped to the wall.

4
Packaging taken away

Boxes get flattened, foam and plastic bagged, and the lot leaves with me unless you want to keep it. Spare fittings are bagged and left with the instructions in case you move the piece later.

What Affects the Price in Oakville

Build time is what you are paying for, and that varies more than people expect. A bedside table is quick. A tall wardrobe run with sliding doors is a serious afternoon. The number of pieces, the size of each one, whether the boxes are already in the right room, and how much wall anchoring is needed all count. Disassembly for a move usually takes less time than the original build. Whatever the list, the price or hourly rate is settled before I open a box.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in Oakville

My floors are new hardwood throughout. How do you keep them from getting marked?

I work on a blanket, never on the bare floor. Panels, hardware and tools stay on it while I build, cam locks and screws never sit loose on the boards, and every foot or plinth gets a felt pad before the piece takes its weight. Anything heavy is lifted and placed rather than slid across. It costs a few minutes and saves the floor.
