Furniture assembly in Scarborough means working around split-level stairs and concrete apartment walls. A finished dresser will not turn the half-landing in an Agincourt backsplit, and an anti-tip anchor in a Kingston Road tower is not going into wood.
So I build in the room the piece is staying in, and I carry masonry bits alongside the usual drywall fixings. Beds, bunk beds, wardrobes and shelving all get squared, levelled and fixed back to the wall, and the flattened cardboard goes out with me.
