Drywall Repair and Patching for Pickering Homes

Drywall repair in Pickering often arrives with a renovation. The 1970s houses in West Shore, Bay Ridges and Amberlea still have wood panelling and strapped ceilings in the lower levels, and as those rooms get updated the new drywall has to meet what is already there.

I am Sercan and I take the job from bare framing to a sanded, paint-ready surface. Where old and new material meet at different thicknesses, I shim and float the transition rather than leaving a step for the paint to point out.

Those 1970s Pickering basements are the reason. Panelling was often nailed straight to furring strips, so once it comes off the wall sits at an odd depth and fresh board will not land flush with the framing beside it. Ceilings in the same houses are strapped across the joists, which means a patch can fall between strapping with nothing to screw into, so backing goes in first. Rooms over an attached garage are the other regular, since that ceiling joint moves with the cold.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Photo of the damage

A picture with something for scale tells me most of it: the size, the texture on the surrounding wall, and whether the board is sound or soft. Add a note about the ceiling height and the paint colour if you know it.

2
Cut back and support

The damaged area is squared off to sound board, the cavity checked for wiring and pipe, and a backing strip or a fitted plug goes in. Nothing gets filled until there is something solid behind it.

3
Tape, coat and sand

Paper tape is bedded into compound over the joints, then two or three thin coats go on, each wider than the last, with drying time between them. Sanding is done with a light raking across the wall so shadows show up.

4
Texture, prime and paint

The surrounding texture is matched, then the patch is primed so it does not flash through the topcoat. Paint is blended into the wall or taken corner to corner where a spot repair would still catch the light.

What Affects the Price in Pickering

Size and finish move the price more than anything else. A small fill on a flat white wall is quick work. A large hole in a textured ceiling needs backing, several coats with drying time between them, texture matching and paint, which often means a return visit. Access matters, and so does ceiling height. Whether you supply the paint or I bring it makes a difference, and so does how many separate spots there are around the home. The price is agreed before I start cutting.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in Pickering

I am pulling the panelling off my Pickering basement. Can you board and finish what is behind it?

Yes, that is a job I do often down there. Once the panelling is off I check the strapping and framing, shim where the depths do not match, then board, tape, coat and sand the room so it is ready for primer. If part of the wall is sound and only the lower section needs replacing, I will say so and keep the work smaller.
