Drywall Repair and Patching for Vaughan Homes

Drywall repair in Vaughan runs into shapes, not just flat walls. Homes through Woodbridge, Maple and Kleinburg were finished with rounded corners, arch openings, columns and coffered ceilings, and a chip on a curved corner is a different repair from a hole in the middle of a wall.

I am Sercan and the work is all mine, start to finish. I rebuild the profile before I worry about the surface, because a bullnose that sits a millimetre out shows the moment the hall light is on. Then I coat, sand and blend.

Rounded bullnose corner bead is everywhere in Vaughan's larger homes, and it does not patch like a square corner. The radius has to carry cleanly into the sound bead above and below or the eye catches the kink on the way up the stairs. Arch openings and the inside edges of coffered ceilings have the same problem with more angles in play. Those open two-storey foyers also put the damage three or four metres up, so it gets staged properly rather than reached at.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Photo of the damage

A picture with something for scale tells me most of it: the size, the texture on the surrounding wall, and whether the board is sound or soft. Add a note about the ceiling height and the paint colour if you know it.

2
Cut back and support

The damaged area is squared off to sound board, the cavity checked for wiring and pipe, and a backing strip or a fitted plug goes in. Nothing gets filled until there is something solid behind it.

3
Tape, coat and sand

Paper tape is bedded into compound over the joints, then two or three thin coats go on, each wider than the last, with drying time between them. Sanding is done with a light raking across the wall so shadows show up.

4
Texture, prime and paint

The surrounding texture is matched, then the patch is primed so it does not flash through the topcoat. Paint is blended into the wall or taken corner to corner where a spot repair would still catch the light.

What Affects the Price in Vaughan

Size and finish move the price more than anything else. A small fill on a flat white wall is quick work. A large hole in a textured ceiling needs backing, several coats with drying time between them, texture matching and paint, which often means a return visit. Access matters, and so does ceiling height. Whether you supply the paint or I bring it makes a difference, and so does how many separate spots there are around the home. The price is agreed before I start cutting.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in Vaughan

My walls have rounded corners instead of square ones. Is that harder to patch?

It adds a step. A rounded corner has a set radius, and the repair has to carry that same curve into the good bead above and below it or the corner looks kinked. I splice in matching bead, build the coats out slowly and check the line by eye and by hand in raking light. Painted, you should not be able to find the join.
