TV Mounting for Scarborough Homes

TV mounting in Scarborough often ends up in the basement. The rec rooms in Agincourt, Wexford and Bendale houses were finished decades ago, and the wall you want is panelling or drywall sitting against a block foundation. That is fine to mount on, it just needs the right anchors.

Upstairs the fireplace wall is the usual choice, and the question is how high the screen should sit. I measure from the couch, get the bracket level and keep the cables out of sight. Ask for a quote first, and if a few other small jobs are waiting, I can take care of them in the same visit.

Scarborough basements are where this job gets interesting. Rec rooms in Wexford, Bendale and Agincourt houses are often panelled in thin wood over furring strips fixed to a block foundation, so a bracket has to reach past both and anchor into the block itself. A drop ceiling above gives me a tidy route for the cable. Upstairs the 1960s fireplaces sit on a solid chimney breast, and the apartment slabs along Kingston Road and Markham Road are concrete throughout.

How It Runs

From Message to Finished Job

1
Photos and details

Send a photo of the wall and the model of your TV. That tells me the screen size, the VESA pattern and usually the wall construction, which is most of what I need to quote the mount accurately.

2
Wall survey on site

On arrival I scan for studs, pipes and wiring, confirm the framing by probing inside the bracket footprint, and agree the exact height with you before a single hole is drilled. Marking is done with a level, not by eye.

3
Bracket and screen fitted

The wall plate goes up and gets checked for level, the arms are bolted to the back of the television with the correct length hardware, and the screen is lifted on and locked. Then it is levelled again under load.

4
Cables, test, tidy

Cables are routed and hidden by the method you chose, the picture is tested on your inputs, and the mount is exercised through its full movement so nothing snags. Dust and packaging go with me and the floor gets a vacuum.

What Affects the Price in Scarborough

Screen size and wall type drive most of it. A mid-size television into wood studs is quick work. The same screen onto concrete, brick or hollow block takes longer and needs specific anchors, and a large panel needs careful handling. Full-motion arms take more time than fixed plates. Cable concealment adds to the job depending on which method you choose, and supplying the bracket yourself or having me bring one changes things too. The price is agreed with you before I drill.

Nothing starts before the price is agreed. Send a photo or two with your request and I can usually quote without a site visit.

Asked in Scarborough

Will a TV really hold on the wood panelling in my basement?

The panelling itself holds nothing, so I do not rely on it. In most Scarborough basements that panelling is fixed to furring strips over a block or poured foundation, and I anchor straight through into the masonry behind. That gives a very strong fixing, stronger than drywall and studs. If the basement wall is framed in wood instead, I mount to the framing the normal way.
